What a fantastic holiday! One of our favourites!
Such friendly hosts, beautiful gite and fabulous weather. We couldn't ask for more. As four adults we had the perfect amount of space inside, and lots of room in the pool. In fact, we couldn't think of one thing that could be improved!
Highly recommended and definitely one of our secret escapes.
We will return.

In the flying two night visit we spent with Nick and Veronique it was impossible not to be impressed by every aspect of our stay. The initial warm welcome was followed up by close attentiveness to our every need. The gite itself was large, light and airy, very well appointed and impeccably decorated by Veronique with Nick's delightful paintings giving a personal touch to the decor. I defy anybody not to be impressed - bravo, vraiment au top niveau.

What an idyllic holiday,We have just spent a most enjoyable week in a delightful area of France,in a gite which more than lived up to its description , surrounded by beautiful gardens and pool and to top it all ,our holiday and initiation into the French way of life was greatly enhanced by our very hospitable and helpful hosts Nick and Veronique..There are many interesting towns close by to visit and some very enjoyable walks in the countryside right on your doorstep. Whether you are young or old or just really interested in France and it's way of life this gite in the Charente is really just the place for you..Well done Nick and Veronique- a beautiful home in a beautiful place- we can't wait to return.

We enjoyed a relaxing holiday at Maison des Rosiers. The house is completely in order and beautifully decorated. It is equipped with everything you need to make your holiday perfect (reading books, TV room with DVDs, swimming pool, table tennis, badminton, ...). Wi-Fi that works well!
Véronique and Nick welcomed us personally and had already provided a fresh drink on arrival. They are always ready to give tips or help if there is a problem (Véronique spontaneously made an appointment with the doctor when one of the children was ill).
We stayed one week and enjoyed the peace in combination with some trips to beautiful villages in the neighborhood.

“August 2018. We have just spent a wonderful week at this beautiful gite. Veronique and Nick could not have been more welcoming. They sent very thoughtful communication before we arrived and were always happy to help with any advice needed throughout our stay. The gite itself was even more stunning than in the photos and was immaculately clean. It was well equipped with everything to make the week comfortable and we had been left a lovely array of items on arrival including fresh bread, wine and ice lollies for our children. There were plenty of games to keep our sons, aged between 9 and 6, constantly occupied including badminton, table tennis and toy archery. The pool area was equally beautifully maintained and we enjoyed hours by it in the sunshine. The surrounding area is full of picturesque countryside with fields of sunflowers. We particularly enjoyed visiting the nearby town of Aubeterre- sur-Dronne where we swam in the river, went kayaking and visited the under ground church. We would thoroughly recommend staying at Maison des Rosiers. ”

We had a great week in Maison des Rosiers, the perfect place to unwind, Nick and Véronique are the perfect hosts.
Dinner on the first night was perfect, the Gite is excellent, spotless and they have thought of everything, the beds are very comfortable.
The pool is great, Nick's artistic side is shown not only by his wonderful paintings, but in his lovely garden.
The location perfect if you want to get away form it all, but its not too far from some very interesting little towns.

It was just a chance thing, really - Véronique & Nick were a friend of a friend of ours who mentioned the gite. There were only 2 of us, and we had 2 weeks from 13th Sept 17. The whole thing was a very pleasant experience - I even enjoyed driving down on the relatively traffic-free roads (at least from St Malo - the journey back to Caen wasn't so good, we thought). Anyway, Nick & Véronique might have been our long-time friends - so charming, helpful & sympathetic. And to us with only basic French language skills, their advice was particularly useful when we destroyed a tyre and needed to purchase a couple of new ones. Such a lovely peaceful spot, too, with enough low-energy exploring nearby, and beautiful surroundings if you didn't even want to do that. We don't have a track-record of returning to places on holiday, but we really intend to try at Maison des Rosiers - it kind of got under our skin! Thanks so much. Tony & Lyn.

Wonderful place for a family holiday. Our hosts could not have been more hospitable and helpful and went above and beyond in helping us sort out a baggage problem. The barn conversion is very attractive and comfortable with large bedrooms and spacious living rooms. The village and surrounding countryside are very beautiful and tranquil. A great week!

We absolutely loved Maison Des Rosiers in every way. It is awesome. Véronique and Nick were so kind, welcoming and thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble. The Gite is fantastic - it is beautifully appointed and decorated, calm and restful, bright and light, full of interesting books and DVDs, comfortable and quiet. We wished for nothing and Véronique and Nick had thought of everything we might need for a holiday. The wifi is also superb and faultless! The rooms and beds are extremely comfortable. The garden is fabulous; we loved the garden room and thoroughly enjoyed playing table tennis too. As for the pool - well, that is heaven. I enjoyed a swim every morning before the day started and the water was always warm and the pool easy to open up. It was kept immaculate.

The addition of Nick's beautiful paintings and murals in the Gite is a real added bonus. It makes the house so bright, cheerful and unique.

The surrounding area is fascinating with some lovely towns to visit and the usual superb French markets close by of course - Perigeux, Aubeterre, Angouleme, Brantome, Riberac and the Dordogne etc. There are walks from the Gite as well.

We will be back. Thank you so much Véronique and Nick for making us so welcome and for all your kindness. It was a most special holiday and a happy time with lots of memories. An ideal place to relax in superb surroundings.

This was our first visit to the Charente - it will not be our last!
We were warmly welcomed by Nick and Veronique to their beautiful gite which is perfect in every way. The gite is tastefully furnished with great attention to detail and with every need catered for. The addition of Nick's art work in the form of murals and paintings make it even more special.
The immaculately kept patio, pool and garden room were the icing on the cake and were well used during our stay.
The gite is in a lovely rural situation surrounded by fields of sunflowers yet is perfectly positioned for visiting the interesting towns of Chalais, Brantome, St Emilion and Aubeterre, all within reasonable travelling distance.
This is the ideal place to come and relax and recharge batteries.
Thank you Nick and Veronique for making our holiday so special. We will be back soon!

We had a wonderful week at Maison des Rosiers. The lovely pictures of the accommodation are an accurate representation of the gîte but still don't quite manage to do it justice. It is even more beautiful in real life! It is immaculate and clean inside and out with everything you can possibly imagine you might need, including a picnic basket for days out. The extra touches of Nick’s beautiful paintings reflecting the surrounding country side are a lovely addition.

Véronique and Nick made us feel very welcome during our stay and were available to help us when needed but also gave us lots of space to use the pool and facilities. The table tennis was a real hit with our teenage son!

The gîte is situated in a very small village and is quiet and rural, with walks on the doorstep. The surrounding countryside is picturesque and there is plenty to do close by and a little further afield. A visit to Brantome (the Venice of the Perigord) is worth a trip (about 1hr) as it is a delightful place to wander around.

We would strongly recommend staying here and hope to be back soon. Thank you again to Véronique and Nick for making our visit so special. This was the perfect place to stay for our family holiday that included 3 generations. We absolutely loved it and have many happy memories.
Tim Gilbert & Spencer Jones from Manchester wrote on 11th August 2016:
We were recently honoured to be one of the first familes to stay for a fortnight in this truly exquisite gîte. Prior to our arrival, the communication with Véronique & Nick had been excellent with every single query dealt with quickly and efficiently with a pleasant, personable manner.
After a smooth journey we arrived and were immediately blown away by the location and the gîte itself plus there was a lovely, warm welcome from the delightful hosts. They enthusiastically showed us around and we all instantly agreed that the property was even nicer than the photos, which just don't do it justice!
Situated in the tiny, rustic village of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes near a beautiful old church, La Maison des Rosiers is a magnificent place. Its a real haven of cosiness and tranquilty ideal for familes who want to relax in beautifully calm and idyllic aurroundings.
Inside, the heart of this immaculate house is a huge open plan kitchen diner with a wonderful mezzanine above that leads to four wonderful bedrooms, all with their own unique charm.
Outside, a pathway from the house leads to a stunning pool, al fresco dining area and beautiful garden that became our oasis of relaxation for a large part of the holiday.
Nearby, nestled amongst the stunning fields of sunflowers and vinyards, you will find lovely towns and villages to explore, plus lakes and rivers with beaches where you can swim and kayak.
We had taken up Véronique & Nick's kind offer of a French style cold buffet with apperetifs and wine, some of which was served outside. It was nothing short of splendid and well worth it; a pleasurable start to the holiday and a taste of things to come.
Throughout our stay, interaction with our approachable hosts (who live in the ajoining cottage) was always a pleasure and we had many good conversations with lots of helpful suggestions being offered. I think they could tell we were all hugely impressed by their property and services. We can't recommend La Maison des Rosiers more highly - we have stayed in many stunning places but this has instantly become one of the very best. It's easy to fall in love with its rustic charm and is somewhere you'll want to return to and recommend to friends and family, which we have.
Thank you, Véronique & Nick, for your wonderful hospitality. We very much hope to return and see you again and wish you all the best of luck with your venture. We're certain you'll be more than successful and you really deserve it!
Peter and Eileen Goodliffe from South Milton, Kingsbridge wrote on 19th May 2016:
Just returned from this beautiful Gite. On arrival we enjoyed a traditional French meal in the open barn seating area - seductively lit as night fell. We would recommend this experience, which exceeded expectations, as did the sense of luxury throughout the Gite. We particularly enjoyed the extra touches made by the artist proprietor, and of course the beautiful gardens.
There are many places of interest locally, and would suggest Aubeterre is one not to be missed.
A holiday experience well worth repeating.
